We offer a spectrum of services, from traditional building through to comprehensive design and Build solutions.
Flexibility and adaptivity are key to providing a solution that is relevant and appropriate.

PRE-CONSTRUCTION

For construction sites where it is anticipated that there will be more than one contractor, Clients have a responsibility to appoint a Principal Designer and a Principal Contractor. The Principal Designer’s role is to plan, manage and monitor the co-ordination of health and safety in the pre-construction design phase of a project and involved with design decisions/changes throughout construction. Principal Designers have an important role in influencing how health and safety risks are managed throughout a project. Design decisions made during the pre-construction phase have a significant impact on the safe delivery of each project

Some of the services we offer are:

  • In-house architectural services
  • BIM service (using REVIT)
  • Planning service
  • Building Regulation Service
  • 3D concept plans
  • Measured building surveys
  • Site surveys
  • As built information

PRINCIPAL DESIGNER

The Principal Designer’s role is to plan, manage and monitor the co-ordination of health and safety in the pre-construction design phase of a project and involved with design decisions/changes throughout construction. Principal Designers have an important role in influencing how health and safety risks are managed throughout a project. Design decisions made during the pre-construction phase have a significant impact on the safe delivery of each project

HB Projects offer a full Principal Designer service. This includes:

  • Working with other designers on the project to eliminate foreseeable health and safety risks to anyone affected by the work and, where that is not possible, taking steps to reduce or control those risks;
  • Ensuring that everyone involved in the pre-construction phase communicates and cooperates, coordinating their work wherever required;
  • Setting up a professional tracking process;
  • Contract administration.

PRINCIPAL CONTRACTOR

As a Principal Contractor, during the construction phase, we have an important role with managing health and safety risks. As a business, we have the organisational capability to undertake this role.

As Principal Contractor we:

  • Plan, manage, monitor and co-ordinate the entire construction phase;
  • Take account of the health and safety risks to all affected by the work (including members of the public) and implement suitable control measures;
  • Liaise with the Client and Principal Designer for the duration of the project to ensure that all risks are effectively managed;
  • Before the construction phase begins, prepare a written construction phase plan (CPP), develop and regularly review and revise the (CPP) during the construction phase to ensure it remains fit for purpose;

  • Have ongoing arrangements in place for managing health and safety throughout the construction phase;
  • Ensure suitable welfare facilities are provided and maintained throughout the construction phase;
  • Check that all contractors and consultants which we appoint have the skills, knowledge, experience and where relevant, the organisational capability to carry out their work safely and without risk to health;
  • Consult and engage with site workers about their health, safety and welfare.

DISRUPTION MANAGEMENT

A high proportion of our projects involve working within live and sensitive environments. We are well-practiced in maintaining ‘business as usual’ during programmes for major works, upgrades and refurbishments.

The main areas covered include:

  • Project risk assessments – preliminary and ongoing;
  • Safe design - encompassing user safety (post-contract);
  • Liaising with the client Health & Safety representatives and regulatory authorities;
  • Site safety briefings for our own staff and subcontractors;

  • Selection of people for specific roles and tasks;
  • Selection and maintenance of equipment;
  • Selection of sustainable and durable building materials;
  • Environmental management – minimising environmental impacts and project waste.

DESIGN & BUILD

A large amount of the work we do is delivered under Design & Build Contracts. We have therefore developed professional in-house teams who specialise in the delivery of this type of contract:

Ability:

  • In-house architectural design
  • Structural and civil engineering design
  • In-house commercial team (estimating and quantity surveying)

Approach:

  • Early involvement and collaboration with the client
  • Innovation, value engineering and continuous improvement
  • Established and carefully selected supply chain ensuring quality, consistency, value

Benefits:

  • Speed of delivery – The mechanics of the D&B contract allow for the early commencement of scheme with outstanding areas of design still to be agreed
  • Cost certainty
  • Improved build ability – HB Projects’ knowledge and experience can be applied to scope and design evolution
  • Enhanced communication – the Client/Contractor collaboration breeds strong communication.
  • Reduced client consultant involvement, therefore reduced pre-development costs
  • Quality management
  • Value engineering, innovation and scope development
  • Operational benefits – through understanding business processes and store operations, early involvement can help with effective and efficient scope solutions.

VALUE ENGINEERING

We place a lot of focus on maximising the efficiency of scope and design. Through years of experience and a strong knowledge base across the company, including in-house architectural and engineering design, all elements of a scheme are reviewed on an on-going basis to find the ‘best solution’. Advice may be given or solutions implemented on all aspects from the design concept and scope principles through to civil and structural design efficiencies.
