James Vogel, a Site Manager from our Bradford office, took up the challenge with Ultra White Collar Boxing, to raise money for Cancer Research UK (CRUK).
James comments: “The experience was brilliant from start to finish. We had 16 free training sessions at a martial arts gym over an 8-week period. They really put us through our paces. The events are so professionally organised and give you an experience of a lifetime. The week before our fight we had a full weigh in/stare-down night where we found out who our opponent would be. The fight night itself was very nerve racking, fighting in front of 700 people. My fight went the full 3 rounds and was judged a draw at the end by the referee. The fight was a lot harder than I imagined, there’s no training that can prepare you for the experience. The build of nerves and adrenaline really is energy sapping”.
Ultra Events have been raising money for Cancer Research UK since 2013. Over the years they’ve grown rapidly and now stage around 300 events a year in over 100 different locations. The overall fundraising total is an incredible £25m.
This event raised over £12,000, with James raising over £1,400 himself.
James adds: “I was presented with a Top Fundraiser award for the event before the fights started. Achieving this was what I really wanted to get out of the challenge, the result of the fight was irrelevant. Raising money for charity really gives me an enormous sense of pride and achievement”.
